This scientific notation calculator is a great tool that will convert any number you enter in standard notation to scientific notation. It can also convert from scientific notation to standard notation.
To enter a number in scientific notation type 9e15 for 9×1015
A couple of examples showing how to use the scientific notation calculator.
Example #1
Convert 0.0000000025 in scientific notation.
Solution
1. Click with your mouse in the field that says “Enter you number in standard form here”
2. Then, type in 0.0000000025
3. Click on the button that says “convert” and the answer should say 0.0000000025 converted to scientific notation is 2.50 × 10-9
Example #2
Convert 8000000 in scientific notation.

Why is this scientific notation calculator useful?
When you are doing some computation with scientific notation and the number you are dealing with are very big numbers or very small numbers, you can first convert the numbers in scientific notation.
Suppose for instance you want to add 920000000000000000 and 600000000000000000.
These numbers are so big and as a result, they take too much space on paper.
So it is better to convert them into scientific notation before adding them.
Use the calculator to convert 920000000000000000 and 600000000000000000 into scientific notation.
920000000000000000 = 9.20 × 10+17
600000000000000000 = 6.00 × 10+17
Now, all you need to do is to add 9.20 and 6.00 and then put 10+17 next to it.
The answer is 15.20 × 10+17
Guidelines to follow when using the scientific notation calculator
Enter only 1 number.
You can enter either positive numbers or negative numbers.
This calculator is mostly provided so you can check your answer after you have tried really hard to do it yourself. Again, I recommend that you try to do it first yourself.
