The That’s Maths blog has been active since July 2012. This is post number 600. For the past eleven and a half years, there has been a post every Thursday. For a complete list in chronological order, just press the “Contents” button, or click here.
The posts have covered a wide range of topics in pure and applied mathematics. Most are quite general in style, while some are more advanced or specialised. Although a few posts are ephemeral, most remain relevant. Don’t forget to use the search bar (at top right) to find topics of interest to you.
Over the 11.5 years there have been over a million pageviews, with more than 700,000 visitors, from more than 220 countries. The count of views, month by month, is tabulated above. The map below shows the geographical distribution of visitors. About 33% of visitors are from the United States.
Scaling Down
From the beginning of 2024, I propose to reduce the frequency of posting, as I wish to devote more time to other activities. The monthly articles in The Irish Times will be echoed on this site as usual (on the third Thursday of each month), and I plan to post additional articles — perhaps one per month — as the opportunity arises.
Many of you have followed the blog regularly, and I thank you for your interest. Thanks also to all who have offered comments and ideas for posts, or who have pointed out errors. I am grateful for all the support I have received.
Recognizing the great value of Wikipedia, I thank the multitude of voluntary contributors who make this possible. I have just made a (modest) donation to Wikipedia and, if you also benefit from this wonderful online resource, I hope you will consider doing likewise [click here to donate: https://donate.wikimedia.org/ ].
We are living in a troubled world. Mathematics has the power to solve many problems, to enhance our lives and to relieve human suffering if we use it wisely. Let’s all be optimistic and hope and strive for a better future. I wish all readers a Very Happy New Year.
Peter Lynch.
